One of the oldest junior colleges in Texas, the College was

Tyler Junior College is a public comprehensive community college with
an outstanding record of academic quality offering 45 associate degree
options and 35 certificate options. The College serves approximately
8,000 students enrolling for credit in academic and vocational
programs and 15,000 students in its continuing education program.

Along with its superb academic programs, Tyler Junior College boasts
a 75-acre, tree lined campus, a vibrant student life, eight residence
halls, nationally ranked men’s and women’s intercollegiate
athletic programs, and a broad array of student organizations. For the
business community, TJC’s Regional Training and Development Complex
provides specialized training according to the needs of business,
industry and governmental agencies.

JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a full-time, nine-month instructional
faculty position responsible to the dean, university studies. The
duties for the position are as follows:

Teaching courses and serving as role model for faculty members in
the department.
Developing curriculum and ensuring it is up to date with current
practices of the profession.
Coordinating a plan that ensures department effectiveness and
department specific accreditation as appropriate.
Coordinating and executing a plan that ensures quality instruction.
Developing and maintaining links to high schools,
colleges/universities, and all external learning sites. Coordinating
course and department articulation.
Representing departments to community and prospective students.
Recruiting students, as well, as advising new and current students.
Developing and keeping records of practicum placements and job
placements.
Meeting all applicable deadlines.
Recruiting and maintaining a quality part-time faculty pool. Ensure
inclusion of part-time faculty in meetings, faculty development
activities, and internal processes
Maintaining catalog accuracy for area of responsibility.
Coordinating scheduling and registration processes including summer
registration.
Coordinating department-specific professional development and
ensuring follow-up of professional development activities.
Preparing and administering budgets.
Conducting and documenting department meetings regularly to ensure
involvement by all faculty in department activities.
Coordinating advisory committee activities where applicable and
maintaining records of Advisory Committee meetings.
Coordinating enrollment management for assigned area.
Coordinating continuing education offerings for assigned area.
Maintaining in working order all equipment entrusted to the
department.
Maintaining contemporary knowledge in area of responsibility.
Conducting periodic evaluations of all part-time and full-time
temporary faculty, and participating, as directed by the instructional
dean, in the evaluation of all other full-time faculty, and of any
other employee assigned to the department.
Ensuring compliance with any State and federal laws which may apply
to the department, its courses, or to its faculty.
Performing other duties as assigned by dean, university studies.

EQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in sign language required, Master’s
preferred.

2. Interpreter certification—BEI Advanced (or Level III) or RID
CI/CT or related experience.

3. Teaching experience—3-5 years.

4. Experience in management preferred.
