One important item: this is a 9 month, 25 hour/wk position but paid
out over 12 months.

DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR DUTIES AND TASKS
Reports to the Interpreter Services Supervisor. Responsible for
providing interpretation services for students, teachers, and staff
that are deaf or hard of hearing. Provides interpreting services for
students, teachers, and staff that are deaf or hard of hearing.
Prepares for assignments by reading textbooks; conferring with
students, instructors and/or other interpreters. Assists with
providing general office support including planning and coordinating
the scheduling of interpreters as required, maintenance of training
materials and textbook library. Distribute, collect, and analyze
student and instructor surveys. Provide training and mentoring to
staff, hourly interpreters, and student interns. Other related duties
may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION STANDARD
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience: Must possess required
knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and
demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the
essential functions of the job can be performed.
Required: Two years interpreting work experience. Knowledge of
American Sign Language, interpreting, and deaf culture. Knowledge of
interpreting and transliterating services provided in educational
environments as well as knowledge of Interpreter Services policies and
procedures. Skill in maintaining an established work schedule.
Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills, including
tact and diplomacy. Effectively using organizational and planning
skills with attention to detail and follow through. Providing
interpreting/transliterating services in classrooms, meetings, student
registration, testing, tutoring and counseling environments.
Effectively working with a diverse and multicultural student body.
Maintaining confidentiality of work related information and materials.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Demonstrate proficiency using standard office software applications.
Preferred: Two years work experience in interpreting in a
post-secondary educational environment.
SKILLS TEST
Required: Must pass the ACC Interpreting skills assessment.
EDUCATION
Required: Associate’s degree or equivalent college level course
work.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in related field.
CERTIFICATION
Required: Hold any one of the following: Registry of Interpreters for
the Deaf (RID), CI/CT, Advanced or Masters Certificate. State of Texas
Certification (BEI): Level 4, 5, Advanced or Master Certificates.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a standard office environment. Subject to
standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and
pulling. Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.

conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to
prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.

$1,898-$2,373/Monthly

faculty who meet the specific criteria outlined in the Texas Insurance
Code, section 1551.1021 can elect to participate in the State’s
Group Benefits Plan at his or her cost. ACC Hourly (temporary) jobs
are not benefits eligible positions. ACC participates in the Teacher
Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program
(ORP). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money
Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by federal
law. The ACC Board of Trustees decided in 1981 that ACC employees
would not participate in Social Security.
