Time Warner raises $18,000 for the Texas School for the Deaf

School for the Deaf receives $18,000 from Time Warner Cable, News 8
Time Warner Cable and News 8 Austin, its 24-hour news channel, raised
more than $18,000 for the Texas School for the Deaf.
The money was raised at the annual Kars & Kids classic car and hot
rod show, held on the school’s South Congress Avenue campus.
The school will use the money to buy classroom technology and
equipment for its automotive repair program.
The school recently gave News 8 Austin and Time Warner Cable its
Partner of the Year award.
Real Estate Council raises $45,000 for youth program with art show
The Real Estate Council of Austin raised $45,000 from the recent
Gardner-Betts Art Show and Silent Auction.
The money will go to Project Bridge, a yearlong arts and
entertainment program for youths ages 14 to 17 who are on probation.
The program gives them a chance to express themselves through art and
music.
Classes are organized by the Austin Lyric Opera’s Armstrong Community
Music School, which receives a grant from the council.
Citizens employees’ garage sale nets $15,000 for heart surgeries for
kids
Citizens Inc., an Austin-based insurance company, raised $15,000 for
the HeartGift Foundation through an employee garage sale.
The money will help pay for heart surgery for children from
developing countries. The company has sponsored five HeartGift
children.
Two area charitable groups get $2,500 checks from Ryland Homes
Ryland Homes presented checks for $2,500 each to the Ronald McDonald
House and Capital Area Food Bank.
The company, based in Calabasas, Calif., has been building homes in
the Austin area since 1987 and supports a variety of nonprofit
organizations through donations, volunteerism and special incentives
on homes.
