NAD President to Keynote at Deaf Bilingual Coalition Conference

SILVER SPRING, MD – NAD President Bobbie Beth Scoggins has accepted
an invitation to be one of six keynoters at the inaugural Deaf
Bilingual Coalition (DBC) Conference in Milwaukee, WI, June 27-30. Dr.
Scoggins will be speaking about early hearing detection and
intervention (EHDI) systems and how the deaf community can become
involved in these systems and support deaf children and their
families. “I look forward to the first DBC conference. DBC
supporters are passionate about American Sign Language and making sure
that deaf babies have access to full language from birth” said Dr.
Scoggins.

NAD Chief Executive Officer Nancy J. Bloch added, “The NAD has been
involved in EHDI activities for many years and we have information
about EHDI on our website. We support the early identification of deaf
and hard of hearing children and early access to both American Sign
Language and English. It is only through early access to language and
communication that deaf children can reach their full potential.”

About the NAD

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) was established in 1880 by
deaf leaders who believed in the right of the American deaf community
to use sign language, to congregate on issues important to them, and
to have its interests represented at the national level. These beliefs
remain true to this day, with American Sign Language as a core value.
As a nonprofit federation, the mission of the NAD is to preserve,
protect, and promote the civil, human, and linguistic rights of deaf
Americans. The advocacy scope of the NAD is broad, covering the
breadth of a lifetime and impacting future generations in the areas of
early intervention, education, employment, health care, technology,
telecommunications, youth leadership, and more. For more information,
