TCD Newsletter – August 2008

Texoma Council for the Deaf Newsletter

Sherman/Denison, Texas

August 2008

We hope you enjoyed our country’s birthday this 4th of July with
family and friends and saw beautiful fireworks. We had a horribly dry
July with no rain. We really need the rain for this month.

This month, TCD will be hosting the ‘Wanted: Dead or Alive’ event
on August 9th at Elks Lodge in Sherman at 7 p.m. We will have a
‘best-dressed cowboy or cowgirl’ costume contest. Come one and all
to enjoy our ‘Wanted: Dead or Alive’ event. Tell your family and
friends of those who don’t have a computer or pager to come and meet
many new faces and enjoy the social night. The Cash Bar will be open
for anyone over 21 years old to drink. If you have any questions about
the social night event or direction, please email us at
[email protected]
.

Last month, TCD hosted the ‘Aloha’ event and it was pretty good
with the number of attendances. We had a great time dressing up in
Aloha costumes. We decorated a very beautiful background on the wall
to make it look real and had great pina colanda drinks. You can check
out our website under Gallery to see our beautiful decorations. There
were also a few new members. Please welcome them to our team!

The Randolphs invited some friends to go on boating and watched the
beautiful fireworks on July 4th at Texoma Lake. We really enjoyed
docking on the small island in Texoma Lake and had a picnic there. The
food was so delicious. The weather was hot, with a breeze and very
little rain for a short time.

The Randolphs hosted the 4th of July Cookout on July 5th at their
residence and invited friends. We all brought our own potluck to
share. We had a great time chatting and playing some games. We had a
blast time. It was a very nice weather but hot and humid.

We wanted to share great news to celebrate with Scott Randolph for
his one-year presidency in July. Congratulations, Scott.

The 49th Biennial NAD Conference was held at the New Orleans Marriott
in New Orleans, LA, from July 7-11, 2008. Michelle Lapides from
Maryland was crowned NAD Miss Deaf America 2008-2010. Congratulations,
Michelle.

Deaf Celebration will be held at Plano Centre in Plano on September
27th. Please stop by our booth to check out the information about our
TCD. There will be brochures, flyers and more info about TCD and
events.

V-Meeting was taken on July 30th thru CSDVRS to discuss the issues
but it wasn’t finished discussion. It will continue with more issues
to discuss in the next meeting. Please check our schedule for the next
meeting at our website.

Shelia Bills and Deborah Young will attend SWDBA in Little Rock,
Arkansas on July 31-August 3, 2008.

Lynn Randolph will be attending her Close To My Heart Convention on
July 30-August 4, 2008 in Orlando, Florida for her scrapbooking
business.

Next month, We will be hosting the ‘Mardi Gras Night’ at Elks
Lodge #2280 in Sherman on September 13 at 7 p.m. We will have a
‘best’ dressed costume contest. Come one and all to enjoy our
‘Mardi Gras’ event. Tell your family and friends of those who
don’t have a computer or pager to come and meet many new faces and
enjoy the social night. The Cash Bar will be open for anyone over 21
years old to drink. If you have any questions about the social night
event or direction, please email at [email protected]

. Please bring your potluck to share with everyone. If you don’t
bring potluck to share, it will be $2.00 more per person because it is
not fair for everyone to come without food and take advantage for
free.

We will have general meeting on CSDVRS hosted V-Meeting. If you are
interested in a V-Meeting, all you have to do is set up V-Meeting in
your Videophone (VP) under CSDVRS, or if you need help, CSDVRS will
come by to add CSDVRS on your VP and give you free new toll free 800
number. It will be live chat through relay by VP. If you are
interested to receive the information about V-Meeting, please contact
us at [email protected]
and we will help you to set up the V-Meeting in your VP.
