NEWS BRIEFLY: “UT-Dallas earns accreditation for child development
center”

The University of Texas at Dallas’ Collier Center recently earned
accreditation for its child development program from the National
Association for the Education of Young Children.
To earn accreditation, a program must pass 80 percent of the
association’s 400 criteria, which include a review of the center’s
teaching faculty members and their teaching methods.
The center offers care and an education curriculum for children
between the ages of 6 weeks and 6 years of UT-Dallas and UT
Southwestern Medical Center employees and offers a preschool deaf
education program for the Dallas Independent School District.
“Parents know they are getting the best care,” said Don Owens,
spokesman for the association, referring to the program receiving its
accreditation.
The association established its accreditation system in 1985 to set
professional standards for early childhood programs and to help
families identify high-quality programs.
The accreditation term lasts five years, and an accredited center is
subject to random assessments from the association.
