NAD Board Seeks Motivated Persons Who Want to Make a Difference
Posted October 24, 2008
The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Board of Directors seeks
the involvement of motivated and energetic persons who want to get
involved in the NAD – and help make a difference on behalf of the
American deaf and hard of hearing community.
Such volunteer involvement is sought for NAD Board standing
committees between now
and the 2010 NAD Conference in Philadelphia, PA. Dialogue among
committee members is mostly through email and IM chat discussions (and
in between, via VP).
Opportunities to Serve on Standing Committees:
The NAD Board has five standing committees. Chairs for each of the
committees have been selected, as follows:
Development – Julie Rems-Smario (California)
Annual giving, bequests, endowments, grants,
and special events
Finance – Ronald Sutcliffe (Maryland, also Board Treasurer)
Audit, budget, and investments*
Governance – Christopher Wagner (Florida, also Board Vice
President)
Bylaws, board policy, biennial conferences,
leadership and regional conferences, state
associations/affiliates
Membership – Margie English (District of Columbia)
Benefits, marketing, and outreach
Public Policy – Howard Rosenblum (Illinois)
Bioethics, civil rights, education, international issues,
media, mental health, and technology
Interested persons are encouraged to send a detailed email to
[email protected]
, explaining their interest, areas of expertise, and how they can
contribute to a particular standing committee. The number of people on
each committee will vary, based on structure and tasks involved (with
balance given to diverse backgrounds and expertise). *The Finance
Committee is now at capacity; even so, the chair welcomes expressions
of interest.

About NAD
The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) was established in 1880 by
deaf leaders who believed in the right of the American deaf community
to use sign language, to congregate on issues important to them, and
to have its interests represented at the national level. These beliefs
remain true to this day, with American Sign Language as a core value.
As a nonprofit federation, the mission of the NAD is to preserve,
protect, and promote the civil, human, and linguistic rights of deaf
and hard of hearing individuals in the United States of America. The
advocacy scope of the NAD is broad, covering the breadth of a lifetime
and impacting future generations in the areas of early intervention,
education, employment, health care, technology, telecommunications,
youth leadership, and more. For more information, please visit
