TSID Interpreter Symposium
January 2-3, 2009 – Austin, Texas
The Symposium will allow participants a forum to share ideas,
information and concerns regarding the interpreting profession, and
will allow for an opportunity to create a plan on how to move forward
on these topics.
January 2, 2009 – Friday, 7pm – 9pm Presenters: Mark Seeger and
Billy Collins – This session will focus on how to use systems advocacy
to make policy and legislative change. Advocacy works to create change
in organizations, service systems, or laws and is used to change
policies of agencies, organizations or departments. Where the effort
is directed will depend on the nature of the problem and which
organization has authority over the problem area. This workshop will
address the stages of systems advocacy and provide participants with
the tools to impact public policy and legislative change.
January 3, 2009 – Saturday, 9 am – 5 pm – This forum will
provides an assembly where peers may share important information and
ideas that participant would like TSID to address. Once ideas are
gathered the assembly will prioritize and break into focus groups and
consider approaches to address these topics.
