2010-2011 Policy Recommendations for the Texas Governor’s Committee on
People with Disabilities

We are pleased to release the 2010-2011 Policy Recommendations from
the Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities. The
Committee’s mission is to further opportunities for persons with
disabilities to enjoy full and equal access to lives of independence,
productivity, and self-determination.
The committee’s work is guided by Chapter 115 of the Texas Human
Resources code (http://tlo2.tlc.state.tx.us/statutes/hr.toc.htm
).
The committee is made up of 12 appointed members, seven of whom have
disabilities. The Governor’s Committee on People with
Disabilities’ staff collected 6,845 comments from people with
disabilities, disability organizations, local mayor and county
committees, service providers, and businesses to formulate the
following Goals and Recommendations. The staff also tracked research
and emerging trends to add to the public comments. The Committee
considered priorities of Texans with a wide variety of disabilities
including physical, mental, and sensory disabilities. These policy
recommendations, drafted by the Committee members, are released for
the public review and use during the 81st Legislative Session. Please
feel free to distribute these recommendations to anyone who may be
interested in them. Soon, we also will post the 2010-2011 Policy
Recommendations to our website.
