Voter’s Workshop for People with Disabilities in Fort Worth

Voter’s Workshop for People with Disabilities in Fort Worth

Hello Everyone,

We are preparing to organize another Voter’s Workshop for People with
Disabilities. It is tentatively scheduled for April 2 or 4 at
Arborlawn United Methodist Church in Fort Worth. We are in the process
of organizing a blog site to remind people about their voting rights,
to register to vote and about the voting process. Local elections are
important. A city council can change the direction of a city and
include people with disabilities in their vision. So, it is important
for people with disabilities to be involved in and vote in their local
elections. The decisions made at the local level affect our daily
lives.

I want to invite you to a Voting Workshop Prep Meeting on Thursday,
March 12, 2009, at 6:30 PM. The workshop will be basically the same as
the first workshop, including exhibit tables for nonprofit
organizations that support and provide services for the different
disabilities. The exhibit tables and workshop will be free of charge.
However, I will need your help getting out the word and getting people
to attend. I would like to discuss ways to do that on March 12th, to
learn about your thoughts and ideas, and to share mine about this
training and another training I would like to do in the future
focusing on developing leadership skills.

Since the first voting workshop in September, I have been appointed
to the Mayor’s Commission on Human Relations in Fort Worth. I was
sworn in last month. On February 3, the Fort Worth City Council
unanimously passed a resolution in support of accessibility to city
services for the deaf and hard of hearing community. I am interested
in the needs of people with disabilities in Fort Worth and North Texas
and how I can best be of help as a Fort Worth Commissioner. I am
hoping that the Voting Workshop will be an inspiration for other
persons with disabilities to apply for appointed positions and run for
public office.

I look forward to seeing you on March 12. Please RSVP. If you are
unable to attend, but are interested in helping, please let me know
that too.

Sincerely,
Tracey Michol
