The National Education Association honored Dr. Suess’ legacy by
holding Read Across America Day. The children’s book author would have
celebrated his 105th birthday Monday.

At the Texas School for the Deaf, students lounged around in their
pajamas, with signed story telling.

The program is called ABC ASL (American Sign Language), and is not
just for the hearing impaired.

“He goes around to different schools in the AISD
with hearing students, and exposes them to sign language and how he
can bring the books, they come alive,” Mindy Moore with ABC ASL said.
“And the children understand through the body language, through
gestures, through pictures.”

ABC ASL is a nonprofit program sponsored by the City of Austin.
