Job Description:

The Specialized Telecommunications Assistance Program (STAP)
Administrative Assistant is hired by and is accountable to the
Director and reports to the STAP Specialist main point of contact and
performs complex (journey-level) administrative support and technical
program assistance work. Work involves processing STAP applications,
issuing follow-up letters and vouchers, disseminating information,
maintaining confidential filing systems, data entry and performing
internal administrative support work. Work involves providing
technical support in the overall operations of the program. Duties
include: processing STAP applications; updating consumer files with
current information; issuing of vouchers for the exchange of
equipment; providing consultative services and technical assistance to
general public, staff, governmental agencies, or community
organizations, and training others. Works under general supervision
with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent
judgment. May train others. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:

Reviews and verifies consumer telecommunications equipment
applications, performs complex typing, word processing and data entry;
to process those applications; may involve follow up inquiries to
consumers. (60%) Performs technical assistance work for the program
responding to consumer and general public inquiries about status of
applications and technical inquiries regarding program regulations,
policies and procedures. (15%) Prepares and disseminates information
on the program and its procedures. (5%) Conducts presentations
relative to the program for consumer and general public. (5%) Primary
telephone work answering office telephone, routing calls to all staff
within the office.. (10%) Performs related work as assigned. (5%)

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

High school diploma or GED, graduation from an accredited four-year
college or university with major course work in a field related to
program area preferred. Minimum two (2) to three (3) years
progressively responsible experience in general office practices and
administrative support. Experience in providing telecommunications
services to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing or to
individuals with other disabilities which interfere with telephone
access preferred. Experience in working with a variety of specialized
equipment that is used for accessing the telephone networks preferred.
Education and experience may be substituted, one for another, on a
year for year basis General to Considerable Knowledge: of report and
record maintenance principles and practices; of modern office
practices and procedures. Knowledge of office management principles
and practices and administrative procedures. Knowledge of assistive
telecommunications technology for individuals who are deaf, hard of
hearing, speech impaired or with other disabilities preferred. Skill
in: using a computer keyboard for word processing and data entry
required; in writing professional reports and in making presentations.
Ability to: provide services to individuals who are deaf, hard of
hearing, speech impaired or with other disabilities preferred; and to
communicate effectively in writing. Ability to respond to telephone
calls and provide information as needed. Ability to communicate using
American Sign Language is preferred

Initial Selection Criteria:

1. Education- High school diploma =1, Post secondary course work +1,
Bachelor’s Degree +2, Master’s +3 2. Experience (minimum) 3 yrs.
Progressively responsible experience in general office
practices/administrative procedures =1, add 1 point for each
additional year max=3 3. Courses in business practices = 1 point 4.
Prior experience with assistive technology for individuals who are
deaf, hard of hearing, speech impaired or with other disabilities yes
=3, no=0 5. Prepare accurate reports using statistical or other
technical information sources, yes = 1 no = 0 6. Knowledge of record
maintenance principles and practices yes = 1 , no = 0 7. Experience in
providing services to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing or
to individuals with other disabilities, yes = 3 no = 0 8. data entry
experience, yes=2, no=0
