Aspen Deaf Xtreme Celebrates 30th Year
Aspen, CO – January 4, 2010
Children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing have a thrilling winter recess to
look forward to in February. Aspen Camp is hosting its 30th annual winter
camp, Aspen Deaf Xtreme. Sponsors such as Aspen Ski Co., Town of Snowmass
Village and Silvertree Hotel are endorsing this event, allowing AC to give
more to the campers.
Aspen Camp has offered winter camp every year since 1979 for deaf and
hard-of-hearing children ages 12-18. Campers receive lessons from volunteers
who are accomplished in either snowboarding or skiing, and can communicate
in sign language
“We are very grateful for the sponsors, volunteers and the Aspen community.
Without their support in this program, the event would not be possible,”
remarked Eric Kaika, Program Manager. “This is also a great opportunity for
the kids to experience a winter sport and identify with other deaf adults
who can teach them.”
Founded in 1967, Aspen Camp of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides
enriching, educational experiences for deaf and hard of hearing individuals
around the nation. Aspen Camp is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that
host programs including winter/summer camp, vocational training, retreats,
challenge courses and more. More information about Aspen Camp and our
