Hello Parents of Deaf Children at TSD, TSD Alumnus, Friends and Supporters
of Texas School for the Deaf:
Texas School for the Deaf is facing budget cuts that will hurt some programs
at TSD and eliminate some positions. It is ironic that TSD has been growing
in numbers of students and is now recognized as one of the best deaf schools
in the country, the state is threatening to cut the budget for the school.
We need your support:
Here is how you can help!
1. Watch this video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQKYVpIUXHg . (youtube video)
2. Sign up in Facebook under “SAVE TSD” to get updates.
3. We need volunteers. Send email to us at [email protected]. We need
people to send letters to Senate, House of Reps, Legislatures, and various
law makers to protest against the budget cut. Email us if you are
interested and we will show you how.
4. Show up and show your support at the Senate Finance Hearing this Monday,
February 7th, 2011, at the State Capital Room E1.036 at 9:30 AM. There will
be some parents giving testimonies. We need to fill the room there with
supporters to watch.
5. We will have another hearing with the House Appropriation Subcommittee,
too so we need supporters to go there, too. Date has not been determined
yet but will be announced in Facebook. We need supporters there, too.
6. Show up and bring your family, relatives, and friends (both deaf and
hearing) to the TSD Rally on Wed, March 9th from 2 PM to 5 PM outside at the
South Steps of the Texas Capital. We want to see thousands of people there
to show the world what TSD represents. ASL students and anyone are welcome!
We will invite the media and ask some politicians to show up, too.
Thank you for your support.
