Ethics for the Church Interpreter

Presented by Connie Miller and Kathy Bayne

Ethics for the Church Interpreter impacts all areas of Church interpreting.
Not only do interpreters need to follow the established code of conduct,
but also continue to improve their skill level, offering the best services
possible, in all areas of church interpreting.

Through lecture and large and small group discussions, the participants will
be raised to a new level of consciousness regarding the importance of
interpreting church concepts in a visual meaningful way to their Deaf
consumers.

In the small group breakout sessions, the participants will share ethical
situations and discuss solutions. Various ways to interpret Bible concepts
will also be discussed. These will be shared in large group time where it
can be observed what skills were acquired, or added to, through this
workshop.

Becoming a Well Rounded Church Interpreter

Presented by Connie Miller and Kathy Bayne

The “well rounded” Church interpreter requires a wide range of skill sets
that touch all phases of church life. From timeliness to attire,
confidential information to open involvement, Bible knowledge and world
knowledge, teaming, dramas, church vocabulary, and so much more, will be
discussed.

Through lecture and large and small group discussions, the participants will
become aware of growth areas for themselves and their Deaf ministries as a
whole.

In small group breakout sessions, the participants will discuss what is
limiting their ministries from moving forward and how to overcome
roadblocks. In large group time, the participants will share what new
information that was acquired and how it can be taken back to the local
church and implemented.
