SafePlace – Deaf Services staff is very pleased to announce that we recently
developed volunteer program for Deaf/HH community in Austin, Texas. Please
read below for six volunteer positions that we are seeking for. Currently,
we are in a need for a filmmaker and editor to start our projects soon.
Please feel free to pass this information along to anyone that might be
interested in filming or editing for our program.

warning, we require all volunteers to go through background check for
security purposes, and the one-time fee is 10 dollars. This is the only time
we expect our volunteers to pay.

All location in Austin, Texas

DEAF SERVICES – PUBLIC AWARENESS EVENTS VOLUNTEER

Represent SafePlace – Deaf Services at Deaf events (i.e., Texas School for
the Deaf Homecoming Fair, Deaf Nation Expo, etc.) and provide basic
information about Deaf Services and/or educate about sexual and domestic
violence.

Qualifications:
Friendly, flexible personality.
Must be fluent in ASL.
Participation in SafePlace – Deaf Services training.

Timeframe:
Request upon event opportunities.

Supervisor:
Deaf Services Outreach/Educator

DEAF SERVICES – ACTOR/ACTRESS VOLUNTEER

Perform in film(s) related to sexual and/or domestic violence in ASL to
provide full access to communication and information about sexual and
domestic violence to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities.

Qualifications:
Friendly, flexible personality.
Must be fluent in ASL.
Participation in SafePlace – Deaf Services training.
Experience in acting preferred, but not required.

Timeframe:
Request upon film opportunities.

Supervisor:
Deaf Services Outreach/Educator

DEAF SERVICES – FILM EDITOR VOLUNTEER

Edit films, add subtitles, and upload to youtube channel(s) and/or Facebook.
Films are related to sexual and/or domestic violence in ASL to provide full
access to communication and information about sexual and domestic violence
to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities.

Qualifications:
Friendly, flexible personality.
Must be fluent in ASL.
Participation in SafePlace – Deaf Services training.
Must use your own equipment (i.e., computer/laptop, software program
installed, etc.) to complete tasks.
Be able to work closely and communicate efficiently with filmmaker volunteer
and Deaf Services Advocate/Educator.
Experience in editing preferred, but not required.

Supervisor:

DEAF SERVICES – FILMMAKER VOLUNTEER

Create scripts, recruit actors/actresses, direct, and film the scenes. Films
are related to sexual and/or domestic violence in ASL to provide full access
to communication and information about sexual and domestic violence to the
Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

Qualifications:
Friendly, flexible personality.
Must be fluent in ASL.
Participation in SafePlace – Deaf Services training.
Must use your own equipment (video camera, lighting equipments, tripod,
etc.) to complete tasks.
Be able to work closely and communicate efficiently with editor volunteer,
actors/actresses, and Deaf Services Advocate/Educator.
Experience in filming preferred, but not required.

DEAF SERVICES – EVENT VOLUNTEER

Help to set up the room, prep materials, prep snacks/food, greet attendees,
recruit/promote events, clean up after the events, and other tasks that need
to be completed.

Qualifications:
Friendly, flexible personality.
Excellent organization skills.
Work well under time pressure.
Must be fluent in ASL.
Participation in SafePlace – Deaf Services training.

Timeframe:
Request upon event opportunities.

DEAF SERVICES – SURVIVOR SPEAKER

Share your story (without disclosing the specific details) at Deaf Services
events and/or in films. The purpose of sharing your story is to educate
Deaf/HH communities about sexual and domestic violence and show the public
that it does happen in the Deaf/HH communities. Your story will also help
other Deaf/HH survivors to be aware that they are not alone.

Qualifications:
Friendly, flexible personality.
Must be fluent in ASL.
Must be fully recovered and comfortable to share your story.
Prepare your story with Deaf Services Outreach/Educator in advance
(optional).
Participation in SafePlace – Deaf Services training.
