SAN ANTONIO — The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio received a nearly $1 million federal grant, the school announced Thursday. It will fund scholarships for future teachers who will work with deaf children.
The $950,000 U.S. Department of Education grant will flow to the Health Science Center's master of deaf education and hearing science program, according to a news release.
Over five years, 48 students will benefit from scholarships and stipends because of the grant, with training focused on helping hearing-impaired and deaf children develop spoken language, the release said.
