An ASL Christmas Program – DFW
We are organizing a Sign Language Christmas program for her Girl Scout Gold Award. She has invited the youth of Garland/Sachse to come and learn 19 Christmas songs in Sign Language to go with a short play that she wrote.
Her goal is to raise awareness that ASL is now offered in the Garland High Schools by sharing this beautiful language with others. She would like to invite some deaf and hearing friends to attend.
The students are taught the program are in High School and they have 1 or 2 years of sign.
The show is about 30 minutes. We will have an interpreter to sign the spoken words of the play. It has 19 Christmas songs that the High School kids will be teaching younger kids and the kids will be signing them.
Admission is free. However, we are hosting a cookie exchange. Bring a dozen or more cookies and 12 written out recipe cards and everyone can snack and share recipes after the show.
We are inviting students from the deaf school in the DFW area. The church is also supporting her project and invited other groups with disabilities to enjoy the evening.
She saw this as a great opportunity to share the beautiful language of sign with our hearing and deaf communities.
