Edna was born August 22, 1924 to Walter McHan and Mabel Hicks in Plattsburgh, N.Y. While in New York, she attended the Malone School for the Deaf. She moved to Texas in the 1950s where she met and married Frank Mitchell. Together they had a daughter, Candi. She worked at Williamson & Dickie for many years before she retired. After retirement, she loved going to Goodrich Center for the Deaf where she enjoyed playing games and the fellowship of many friends. She was “Grandma Edna” to many students in the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf classes in which her daughter taught. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren which were her pride and joy. She enjoyed playing bingo and dressing up for each holiday. Her final years were spent at Huguley Nursing Home where she made many friends among the staff and residents. Her beautiful smile and “I love you” sign will be missed by all who knew her. She is now singing with the angels in heaven.
