Tyler Junior College’s Sign Language Interpreter Training Program (ITP), located in East Texas, is looking to fill two part-time, face-to-face positions. TJC’s ITP is the only program conveniently located between Dallas and Shreveport. Twice awarded Exemplary Status by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, we offer small class sizes, meeting best practice standards. We collaborate with TJC’s healthcare and other programs to offer mutual training regarding interpreting and working with consumers who are Deaf. Job Title: Adjunct Professor, ASL

Regular or Temporary: Regular, Part-Time

Position Description
Professors provide classroom instruction and college services and are responsible to department chairs and instructional deans. Exhibit a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.

Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Sign Language or a related field, with a minimum of 18 hours of courses in the field
• Proven native fluency in American Sign Language, Deaf Culture and written English
• Knowledge and teaching skills of ASL Linguistics
• Working knowledge/skills using technology in teaching ASL

Preferred Education
• Teaching experience – minimum 3 years
• Interpreter certification – CDI (state or national)
• Member of ASLTA

Job Title: Part-time Lab Assistant, ASL

Position Description
Responsible for providing assistance in the Sign Language Interpreter Training program ASL computer labs.

Qualifications
• Evidence of native fluency in American Sign Language

Competencies
• Must have strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft programs. GoReact, Sans Sony Soloist and Canvas experience is a plus.
• Ability to meet goals and work effectively in a team environment with both Deaf and hearing teams.
• Must be able to respect confidentiality, implement problem solving and maintain courtesy in dealing with students, faculty, staff and visitors.
