FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HUMANITIES TEXAS PARTNERS WITH DEAF TELEVISION FOUNDATION (DTF) FOR UPCOMING DEAF AUTHORS BOOK FESTIVAL
May 2022
Austin, Texas – Humanities Texas announced the organization will partner with Deaf Television Foundation for the upcoming Deaf Authors Book Festival, May 6-7, 2022, at the Texas School for the Deaf (TSD).
Deaf Television Foundation president and co-host of the Festival, Dr. Steve Baldwin says, “This is exciting news. “
With the support of Humanities Texas, known for its advocacy of history, culture, and education, this event will indeed have a positive impact toward building awareness of deaf writers, deaf culture, and deaf history in our communities.”
Fifteen specially selected authors from Hawaii, Washington, D.C., Arizona, Minnesota, Florida, California, and Texas all met the following criteria to participate in this event: published a book after 2015, in genres related to deaf culture, history, literature, or the arts.
“This major literary event is long overdue in the history of the American deaf community, adds Baldwin.
Thanks to TSD, our sponsors, volunteers, donors and grantors, those attending will have a rare opportunity to meet the authors, purchase the featured books and have them signed.”
TSD Superintendent, Claire Bugen, says, “we look forward to hosting this event which highlights accomplished authors who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and BIPOC.
We are excited for TSD students to learn from the rich knowledge these authors bring as well as the variety of writing techniques.”
The two-day event includes panel discussions and a special program for aspiring high school and post-secondary students. The event is free to the public. No registration required.
The schedule, including titles and authors, is due to be announced in January 2022.
