Access Vine is looking to hire a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Technology Specialist who will cover the counties listed under Texas Health and Human Services Region 3. This entails providing support to individuals who reside in the surrounding counties.

Employment Status:

Contract/Remote (resides within 60 miles of the assigned regions: Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas)

Part-Time – up to 20 hours per week, completely remote with the occasional need to provide community presentations and meet assigned quota.

Specialist located in the DFW Metroplex.

The purpose of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Technology Specialist is to provide services to persons with hearing loss, including those who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, and late-deafened; to identify solutions based on the needs of the individual and their families, and strive to improve quality of life for these persons by providing essential training and information in accessing communication in the local community. Areas of scope may entail doing workplace assessments and consulting on technology solutions for communication access in public settings including education, medical, legal, and employment settings.

Training may include a demonstration of assistive technology, a new technology that provides access to communication, information on communication strategies, tips on managing hearing loss to improve quality of life, and sharing information and resources as well as linking clients to pre-existing programs operated by Texas Health and Human Services’ Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services.

The specialist is responsible for developing and implementing workshops for individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing of all ages. They work closely with community organizations to identify training needs and design customized training solutions that align with the contract goals and objectives. The training specialist is also responsible for delivering training sessions and evaluating the effectiveness of training events. They should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and serve as a great problem solver. Candidate should have at least 3-5 years of experience in training and development.

All specialists must be able to attend community events and are required to attend monthly/annual meetings with the Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services.

Qualified Technology Specialist shall have as a minimum:

  • Have advanced knowledge of the communication and cultural needs of persons who are Deaf, deaf, hard of hearing, or DeafBlind.
  • Can identify multiple technology solutions for effective communication in various settings.
  • Have background in educating people and families about assistive technology, managing hearing loss, the basics of hearing aids and cochlear implants
  • Can demonstrate and assess communication-enhancing assistive technology
  • Have working functionality in communicating via American Sign Language.
  • Have knowledge of the various types of hearing loss, their causes, and their impact; basic knowledge of the psychosocial implications of hearing loss;
  • Have public speaking experience and ability.
  • Have basic knowledge of how to read and interpret audiograms.
  • Have expertise working independently with a wide latitude of judgment and flexibility.
  • Be proficient in using Google Suite, Microsoft products, and Zoom as well as be comfortable using Apple products (iPhone, MacBook).
