March 14, 2024 JACKSONVILLE, FL (Dock)
The area was originally inhabited by the Timucua people and was later part of the French colony with Fort Caroline. Under British rule, a settlement grew called the Cow Ford. A town was established in 1822 shortly after the United States gained Florida from Spain. The town was named after Andrew Jackson, the first military governor of the Florida Territory and seventh President of the United States.
