Since there is a dearth of research regarding my thesis topic, I am hoping to find Black d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing women who would be willing to meet with me and be a part of my project in whatever capacity they are comfortable with.
If possible, I would like to circulate information regarding my project to your group’s social media or website so that I can find individuals who may be interested in doing so. I have attached a recruitment message and a flyer advertising my project along with an image description. The QR code on the flyer directs to this link: https://forms.gle/Gis17Zz7gVoKDzwk9
Please let me know if you need any additional information and if distributing information regarding my project would be possible. Thank you for reading my email.
Regards,
Chisom Ofomata
Recruitment message: Hi! My name is Chisom Ofomata and I am a current senior at Yale University majoring in the History of Science, Medicine, and Public Health. I am a Black deaf woman and intend to focus on this community for my senior thesis. The focus of my project is how the maternal health experiences of Black d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing (HOH) women evolved between 1980-2010.
Since there is a dearth of academic literature that focuses on this community, I am hoping to collect signed and oral histories from Black d/Deaf and HOH women who were pregnant sometime between 1980-2010. This process will entail two steps. First, we will meet for a non-recorded pre-interview where you can learn more about my project and ask any questions you may have regarding the interview. This step will ensure that you are informed about the signed/oral history process before we proceed. The next step will involve a recorded interview where I will ask questions and learn more about your experiences.
If you would feel comfortable participating and contributing to my project, please fill out this Google form ( https://forms.gle/Gis17Zz7gVoKDzwk9 ) or email [email protected]
