Date: September 22-23, 2017

Location: Highland Lakes Camp & Conference Center, Spicewood Texas

Workshop Description:

Presented by Lucy & Bob James

Bob: Master of Divinity, B.A., Ordained Minister

This workshop will look at the reasons interpreters need to be prepared for various religious interpreting opportunities and how we can be prepared. After discussing the ethics of being prepared, we will continue by analyzing various texts that help us understand meaning–for our own growth and to help us get more meaning into our interpretations. Bob James, an ordained minister, will share ways we can examine Biblical texts to better understand context and implications so that we learn more to help us in our Christian walk.

Lucy James, a certified interpreter and interpreter educator, will help us learn to analyze texts in ways that help us provide better interpretations of those texts. The workshop will be interactive and include Biblical texts, common religious texts used in weddings and funerals, hymns, and praise and worship songs. Participants are encouraged to bring samples of those types of church texts that challenge us as Christians and as interpreters.
