Obituary: Billy Basham

Billy Basham, the beloved father of Vonnie Lisa Basham, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 21st 2006 at the age of 80. He was born in Slaton, Texas on August 23rd 1926 to Wayne and Birdie Basham. He lived most of his life in Wichita, Kansas; 10 years in Austin, Texas. He has full of wit, energy and loved his family and sports.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents George and Elisa Parkhill, His father Wayne Basham, His aunt Zelda Parkhill and his nephew, Fred Basham. He leaves behind his daughter Vonnie Lisa, His wife of 50 years Nita Basham, his grand daughter Shu Swanson, His mother who is 109, his brother David and family, and numerous other family members and friends.

Billy was known as an avid athlete at Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) from 1937 * 1947. He was employed at Beech Aircraft for 41 years in Wichita, Kansas. After his retirement he moved to Austin, Texas to be close to his daughter. He was on several bowling teams at both Wichita and Austin since 1960. His greatest joy was winning a perfect game in bowling, 300, in 1992.

Vonnie wishes to thank the nurses at Granbury Elder Care Center for their wonderful support over the last three years, and the VITAS Hospice staff located in Fort Worth for their loving care in Billy*s final moments. Billy enriched our family’s lives, and we will deeply miss him. A memorial service to celebrate Billy*s life will be held sometime in January in Austin * another memorial will take place in Wichita, Kansas at a later date.
