Deafness Resource Specialist (DRS) (McAllen, Texas)
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
to work with persons who are deaf, hard of hearing and late-deafened
in the areas of advocacy, self-empowerment and sensitivity training,
as well as with Federal and State mandates on equal access to
services, including education and employment. In many instances,
Specialists work as liaisons between consumers and service providers
on appropriate service provision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Responds to customer requests for information
• Provides specific information related to services
• Educates consumers on ADA Issues.
• Maintains the confidentiality of the Customer profile information.
• Tracks, manages and communicates status to funding source.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school graduate.
• Outstanding communication skills; excellent analytical skills.
• May be required to work varying hours including weekend and holidays depending upon the needs of the consumer.
• Strong oral communication, organizational and time management skills.
• Committed to excellence in customer service.
• Must have national or state certification at or above BEI Level I/Basic.
• Must show commitments towards professional development activities and certification maintenance.
• Must have own transportation and be able to travel.
• Must have good understanding of deaf culture.
• Must be familiar with state laws, IDEA and ADA.
