Message from Dallas Deaf Club President 3/07/07

A MESSAGE FROM THE DAD PRESIDENT:

3/07/07

Being a Wisconsinite for years these two or three months of cold weather here isn’t too bad. I guess that’s one BIG plus when living in our Dallas area, grin.

Well, I must share with you that cold weather has not disturbed several volunteer workers at the clubhouse. I am so amazed at how much has been done inside our building in just the last two months! Preston Ashley Sr. & Preston Ashley, Jr., David Normand and Mitchel Bien continue giving DAD their daily many hours and energies in making our clubhouse awesome! A HUGE hand wave for all of them!

Of course there were several volunteers, who have stopped in and helped us for a few hours, and we appreciated every hour that each person gives. Each volunteer hour means a lot to DAD as DAD cannot run by itself. It needs people to help to make it work and be successful. This includes several wonderful folks; i.e., Henry/Minnie Collins, Joan/Herb Picou, Marianne Sasseen and I who dropped by during one lunch hour day and brought lunch meals for the workers.

If any of you have not visited DAD in the past two months, I am telling you, the clubhouse feels bigger, brighter and has a more ‘Deaf-friendly’ environment.

No, it’s not done; however, we are making a very GOOD PROGRESS! How? Via volunteers and donations! We have received some money donations, THANK YOU!!! We still DO need more donations. After the painting job inside, we want to improve our patio outside so that folks can sit outside, whenever it’s nice in the evenings.

Ok, enough about the renovations…

FYI: we will have our second 2007 General Meeting this coming Friday, March 9, 2007, at 7:00 pm. And this is your opportunity to see how much as been done inside DAD! Please being your friend(s) along and let him/her visit for the evening.

Also our Vice President, Donna Lide, has been working feverishly with her Bylaws Committee, L. Campero, J. Rosenthal, M. Sasseen, & K. Seabolt, for the last two months, as well. They are hoping to complete and possibly set up a Special Meeting date, just for Constitution and Bylaws revisions only, sometime in May. I know that this wasn’t an easy task but the Bylaws Committee has worked together to really make any revisions needed, as smooth as possible. Let’s give them a lot of thanks and a big hand wave, too!

I know I have already mentioned this in my previous monthly report, but I still need to remind you and to anyone, who is reading this, that DAD is a non-profit organization with Section 501 c(3). Your donation will always be appreciated and you can always get a tax write off. If you donate anything to DAD I will ensure you that you will receive your donation thank you letter after your contribution.

Yes! DAD does have a Building Fund if you wish to send your money order and/or a check to us. Please make sure to note that it’s specifically for the Building Fund on your check/money order.

Please contact Preston Ashley, at anytime, if you wish to help and/or donate any of the following items (see below). Preston can be reached via either [email protected] or VP at home, 972-307-4264 or VP at DAD, 214-522-0380.

FYI: the House Manager, Preston Ashley, informed me that DAD now needs the following items:

Spot lights for the stage Padded folding chairs
New folding tables LCD projectors
File cabinets Computer/office desks
Dry easel boards Door/ceiling wood trimmer
Kitchen cabinets Kitchen counters

And please do check out our DAD website, www.dallasdeafclub.org, periodically!

DADly yours,
Cathy R. Edler-Ashley
