ASL Classifiers Workshop

TIME: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM
This workshop is for beginning to intermediate interpreters who want to improve their skills in using classifiers effectively. Information from the curriculum “Classifiers: A Closer Look” will be used. Categories: spatial relationship, mental rotation, critical thinking, and shadowing techniques will be presented in this workshop. This workshop will be interactive.
Larry Umberger is a Deaf man with many years of experience using and teaching ASL. He has been an ASL laboratory assistant with Baylor University since 1997. He uses his strengths in the area of ASL classifiers to demo and teach. He was a mentor program coordinator working with intern interpreters and their mentors for 5 years with Central Texas Council for the Deaf. He also was a vocational training workshop instructor with the deaf clients for Sign of the Times, Inc. He is a member of the Heart of Texas Interpreters of the Deaf.
