Sign Up Fund

Have you ever needed an attorney, but you were not able to understand your attorney because there was no sign language interpreter?

Have you ever thought you may need an attorney, but not sure if you will be able to understand your attorney without a sign language interpreter?

Texas Bar Foundation, Texas Lawyers Care, and Advocacy Incorporated proudly present the SIGN UP FUND.

The Texas Bar Foundation has listened to the needs of the deaf community. They have generously started up the Sign Up Fund. It is an exciting new fund that helps deaf people effectively communicate with their attorneys! This fund is open to all attorneys licensed in the State of Texas. These attorneys will be able to get you a sign language interpreter through the Fund whenever you need to meet with your attorney.

Please tell your attorneys about this fund! Get the word out – the more people that know about the Fund, the better. For more information about this fund, please contact Faye Kuo, Deaf Services attorney at Advocacy, Incorporated at [email protected].

The Fund will be available for use until early Summer 2008 or when the funds are used up. So please be sure you take advantage of this opportunity while it is here.

Some important things to know about the Fund:

It is not available for criminal law matters.
It is not available for use in courtroom proceedings (the court is responsible for providing interpreters) or in any other situation where another source of funding is available to provide interpreters.
It is not a legal aid fund for low-income people.
Only attorneys licensed in Texas may use this Fund whenever they need to provide interpreters to their deaf clients.
