FOR RELEASE NOVEMBER 9, 2007
TEXAS SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF HONORS VETERANS
Austin, Texas – November 8, 2007- The Texas School for the Deaf’s
(TSD) Elementary School students invite veterans and all members of
the U.S. military for a special ceremony in their honor today at 9:00
a.m. at the TSD Gymnasium in South Austin.
The program begins with the Sons of American Revolution, Patrick
Henry Chapter Color Guards’ processional, followed by the Pledge of
Allegiance and National Anthem, including signed participation by TSD
students. Color Guard soldiers will be suited in revolutionary-time
period uniforms and flags will be distributed to participants,
compliments of the Austin Exchange Club.
Guest speaker and Iraq war veteran First Sergeant Rick Grooms will
address the crowd with a brief speech honoring military veterans and
those currently serving. Students have designed a mural display
containing photographs of friends and loved ones who have served or
are currently serving in the United States military. There will be
opportunities for photos after the close of the ceremony. Military
personnel are the distinguished guests at this ceremony and the
public is invited to join in sharing appreciation for their brave and
courageous efforts.
With TSD’s educational excellence and a strong belief in culture and
community, students form a unique identity based on their individual
strengths and talents, rather than their disabilities. TSD is an
environment where students learn, grow, and belong. For more
