Good News from Red River Deaf Club

Happy Holidays! Season’s Greetings! Merry Christmas!

Surprise ! Surprise ! – – – – Paris, Texas ( East Texas ) Red River
for the Deaf

We would like to tell you the Good News about Paris, Texas.

Before we tell you about this one, look at the Texas Map, North of
Dallas North East. People who lived in the far East of Texas too far
to come to Dallas for any deaf activities. Some of them did not have
any car, or not enough money for gas to drive a long way to come to
Dallas for activities. Some of them did not have computers, pagers,
or videophones and some did not know where other deaf people lived.
We would like to have deaf people who want to come out to the deaf
community around in East Texas. That’s why they can come and enjoy
meeting new deaf friends and people.

Yesterday a ” baby ” was born to the Red River/Northeast Texas
community, which has not yet been named. We had 21 people in
attendance and that was a great beginning. Most of them came from
within an hours drive and a few drive even further. It was a
beautiful and warm day on December 1, 2007 and we were very exciting
for them to come.

They had many things to discuss about our new deaf club in the area
of Paris northeast of Texas. We might have to re-name our new club,
because they have yet to decide on a new name for the club. They will
bring up new names in the next general meeting in January 2008. We
will give them time to decide and how they feel and who will be our
new officers for the New Club. We will just meet and play a little
bit and get to know each other better before electing officers. We
may have a new idea also for a logo for the club. We hope that those
who attended the first meeting will spread the word to other deaf
people in other areas and communities to come to the deaf club. We
will also have ideas on how to get contributions and other funding if
needed in order to support the new deaf club.

We would like to thank the following people:

Richard and Carol Wagner — we would like to thank you for allowing
us to use your place or space to have our general meetings and
activities. That was the perfect place to use for the deaf club and
the room, it was huge.

Christine Kamal — we would like to thank you for helping us with the
newsletter grammar and she is a very helpful person.

Michelle Baker — we would like to thank you for volunteering and
interpreting in our deaf club. We were very pleased to have you
there.

Melissa Bell (DHSS, DARS) — we would like to thank you for
advertising the information to your clients about our new deaf club.
We really appreciate it.

We look forward to see everyone at our next general meeting, and
hopefully we will have more deaf people and new faces. Don’t forget
to bring your potluck at the next general meeting. On January 5, 2008
at 2 p.m., we will have our 2nd general meeting. Please come. Please
spread the word through the grapevines.

Here is an example of what you can bring for the potluck so that we
will not need to use the microwave or any other equipment. Example: (
finger foods ) Chips and dip, Vegetable tray, Fruit tray, ham and
crackers tray, sandwich club tray, soda and water other finger food
snacks.

If you want to come to our next general meeting, email me and I will
send you the directions how to get to our new deaf club on January 5,
2008 at 2:00 p.m. Here is our email [email protected]
