This set of workshops will provide training to any certified
interpreter and will increase the skill level of Courtroom certified
interpreters. During this course we will present vocabulary for
courtroom situations, hear presentations by legal professionals,
discuss the role of the interpreter in the courtroom, and participate
in practical application sessions using actual courtroom transcripts.
Workshop materials include a transcript and video from a Houston Area
DWI Trial defended by Advocacy, Inc. Please bring a potluck dish to
share with the group.

Day 1 (Sunday)
January 13, 12:30-6:30 pm
Review of Judicial System
Discuss Courtroom Experiences
Discus vocabulary used in legal proceeding for DWI trial
Interpret actual DWI case and discuss feedback
*Attendance at Day 1 is required for admission to Day 2.
Day 2* (Saturday)
January 26, 9 am-3 pm
Presentation by Legal Professional about the DWI trial process
The Role of the Court Interpreter in the US Legal System
Courtroom Logistics
Interpret court proceeding and give feedback
Participants will:
Learn new and review court specific vocabulary in English and ASL
Gain knowledge of the court system
Practice interpreting skills as applied to a trial situation
These workshops will include:

Group Discussion
Practical Application

Both workshops will be held at The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center ,
5151 McArdle, Corpus Christi, TX, 78411. The cost is $15 per
