Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
DESCRIPTION: Seeking a Deafness Resource Specialist to serve Health
and Human Service Region 2(Abilene/Wichita Falls). The Specialist
will assist state and local governments, or-ganizations, and private
entities in making their services accessible and readilyavailable to
individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Also responsible for
ad-dressing attitudinal and cultural barriers of the target
population which may hindersuccessful service delivery. In addition
the Specialist will provide information andreferral services, serve
as a liaison between the consumer and the service provider,and
provide training geared toward the needs of both the service
population and theservice providers for a thirty county area.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma, some College Preferred
Proficient in American Sign Language
Knowledge and Understanding of Deaf Culture
Public Speaking Experience and Ability
Understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA),
Individuals withDisabilities Education Act (IDEA), and the 504 Rehab
Act
Knowledge of assistive equipment
Good skills in relating one on one with clients and others
Reliable Transportation
