Don’t miss out on our history in “All coming together for one
purpose” the making. Texas Society of Interpreters for the Deaf has
trained 20 mentors and 30 mentees in Phase I and another 15 mentors
and 15 mentees during Phase II along with 4 Meta Mentors. That’s 35
trained mentors and 45 mentees working together in a one year period.

Participants are to arrive Thursday June 12 between 1-9 p.m. with
training all day Friday and Saturday and be finished before noon on
Sunday.

Trainers: Meta-Mentors Ginger Bennett, Mike McMillion, Carol
Washington, Erma Webb

CEU’s Texas BEI and RID

Over 14 hours of CEUs will be awarded for the first segment of the
training in June. In addition Independent Study CEUs can be earned
during the six month mentor/mentee partnership.

There is no cost for the training. A nominal fee of $75 is for room
and meal service. Applicants must provide their own travel. The
airport of choice is Midland/Odessa and a shuttle will be available.

The information will be forwarded to those accepted for participation
as will driving instructions for those carpooling or driving.

Criteria for applying:

Applicants must be a member of TSID and commit to the six month
mentor/mentee partnership

Mentors: Texas BEI Level III and above, Advanced or Master; RID
CI/CT; NIC Advanced or Master; NAD Level III or above; for at least
five (5) years or have a college degree (RID CI or CT or NIC or Texas

BEI II will be considered with preference to above).

Mentees: Non-certified interpreter; Texas BEI Level I, II, III, Basic
or Advanced; RID CI or CT. Preference will be given to interpreters
working in the field. Mentees will be required to bring a short list
of their interpreting/signing concerns and a five minute DVD, CD, or
VHS sample of their skills that might demonstrate those concerns.

Deadline for applications: Must be postmarked by April 15. After
processing the applications, acceptance letters will be sent on May 1
with further instructions and information. The participants will sign
and send the acceptance letter and appropriate fees (check, money
order, Pay Pal) back by May 15, 2008. Partial payment of $35 may be
sent by May 15 if the remaining amount of $40 is paid on arrival.

Fees are non-refundable.
