GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Office of the Governor (OOG) values the
talent and diversity of its highly skilled workforce. OOG employees
know that, first and foremost, Texas matters most. The Community
Outreach and Information Coordinator position reports to the
Executive Director in the Governor’s Committee on People with
Disabilities (GCPD) division; promotes disability outreach and public
awareness; provides support for local communities promoting
participation of Texans with disabilities; and manages Committee
award programs including media and employment award events; and
coordinates production and distribution of poster for disability
awareness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Provides in-depth support and assistance to local communities on
people with disabilities including information, technical assistance
and regular communication.
Networks with local committees and interested communities that have
goals similar to the Governor’s Committee.
Implements the Committee’s media and employment awards programs,
including definition of award criteria, nominations and judging
processes.
Coordinates all aspects of media and employment award presentation
events, including notification of winners, preparation of awards,
collaboration with event co-hosts, script, video production,
interaction with dignitaries, media releases, etc.
Researches and writes information for Committee reports, including
local committee and awards accomplishments.
Coordinates the design, production and distribution of annual
disability awareness poster.
Provides constituent assistance regarding disability issues
especially regarding assigned areas of responsibility.
Analyzes and produces written information and provide staff support
designed for Committee work, as assigned.
Works closely with all staff to provide a coordinated approach to
all Committee programs.
Performs all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

In order to be considered for this position, the successful applicant
must meet at least the minimum education, knowledge, skills and
requirements.

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with an
undergraduate degree in public relations, journalism, volunteer
management, or a related field plus three (3) years experience.
Experience and education may be substituted for each other on a
year-for-year basis.
