NOTE:

Due to THE MUSIC MAN being extended two weeks, DON’T DRINK THE
WATER’S original opening of July 11 was pushed back one week.

About the Play:

It all begins when against his own wishes to simply vacation on the
New Jersey shore playing pinochle, the Hollander family patriarch has
taken his wife and daughter on a tour through Europe. In an unnamed
Eastern European country, they take a few too many pictures that just
happen to include a military base lined with razor wire and are
immediately marked by the Communist government as American spies. They
manage to outrun their pursuers as far as the American Embassy. But
there, the Ambassador has left things in the hands of his incompetent
son who hasn’t managed to last more than two months in any Foreign
Service job his dad’s influence has landed him. He doesn’t know a
thing about how to get the Hollander family back to New Jersey or how
to stop the Communists from burning the family in effigy. However, he
is very good with infatuation for the Hollander’s daughter.

Our helpful narrator for all this mayhem is Father Drobney who,
rather than return to the hands of a hostile regime, has lived in the
Embassy for the last six years practicing his magic tricks. Add in a
much-insulted chef, the Sultan of Bashir, and a snooty bureaucrat,
among other eccentric characters, and you have the makings of a
first-rate farce.

About the Director:

Kit Hussey has been acting in feature films, television series and
movies, and commercials for more than 20 years. He has been on stage
in comedies, dramas, and musicals, playing heroes, villains, animals,
and inanimate objects. In March 2005 Kit premiered his original
one-man show, OUTRIDE THE DEVIL, at The Creative Arts Theatre (CATS).
The show was filmed and has been broadcast on PBS. It is now available
on DVD. At Artisan Kit has played Abe Goldman in BEAU JEST and Captain
Keller in THE MIRACLE WORKER. He has also directed FATHER OF THE BRIDE
and RUNNING IN THE RED at Artisan and HOLES at CATS.
