Hello,
I’m an Early Intervention Specialist with Easter Seals Central Texas
ECI. I was just contacted by the case manager at Brackenridge hospital
who is trying desperately to acquire some equipment for a deaf mom
with very limited resources and her child in the NICU. The baby is
doing relatively well, and is expected to be discharged in the next
few days.
Our problem is that mom needs a crier/flasher with a receiver and an
adapter so that she may know when her child needs to eat. The baby is
a preemie and has some very particular needs, and in order to help
this mom as much as possible, the hospital staff is scrambling to
acquire this equipment. TCSDHH has been no help, and with DARS nothing
can be done until the child is enrolled in ECI (which we can’t do
until the baby is discharged), but the baby can’t be discharged
without the equipment.
Forgive me for this rambling email, but we’re not sure where to turn.
Does TSD have any resources to help in this situation? Or would you
know where we may look to acquire (rent/purchase/borrow) the needed
equipment?
