MEDIA ALERT

CHAMPION POOL PLAYER SHOWS STUDENTS TRICKS

WHAT: Multi-title holder in the world of pool (billiards), Shane Van
Boening, visits students at the Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) today.
Van Boening, 25, tells of his successful pool career, teaches students
the basic mechanics of how to hold a cue stick and aim properly, and
demonstrates some trick shots before playing a few games with them.

Van Boening, who is hard of hearing, is a role model to young
aspiring pool players – especially to these students at TSD. He is
known for exuding confidence when competing, and has never allowed his
hearing to hinder his ability to succeed. Unlike the stereotypical
image projected of pool players in the 20th century, Van Boening does
not use alcohol or tobacco. Van Boening, in fact, is a new breed in
the sport and offers hope to many young players who have the desire,
passion for the game, and the right capabilities to succeed in pocket
billiard disciplines.

Van Boening’s titles include:

· 2007 Predator World Ten-ball Champion

· 2007 U.S. Open 9-Ball Champion

· Three-time Valley National Eight-ball Association’s (VNEA)
National 8-ball Champion
