Sordos Empowerment – Winter Newsletter

Sordos Empowerment
“Promoting Self Reliance and Empowerment for the Deaf and Hard of
Hearing”

Job Placement Services:

Sordos has continued to provide quality employment services in the
Austin area. Due to current economic hardships and high unemployment
rates we have chosen to limit services to Austin and its surrounding
areas. Unemployment issues are affecting people across the country.
Sordos is dedicated to breaking down barriers that prevent the Deaf
and Hard of Hearing from obtaining employment. We continue to build
new relationships with Austin employers and are having much success in
placing the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in competitive employment.

Please welcome Chris Espinoza as our new Vocational Services Liaison.
Chris is now responsible for coordinating services and managing our
vocational services department. Chris can be reached via email
[email protected]

or via VP: 512-803-7000.

Interpreting Services:
Due to high demand Sordos has expanded our interpreting services. We
are currently seeking highly qualified; certified Interpreters to work
part time in various educational, medical, legal and vocational
settings. Interpreter interviews and paperwork will be completed every
Friday from 10am-3pm. Please contact April Garcia
[email protected]
to schedule your appointment.

The Deaf Community has a right and responsibility to request
qualified interpreters! If you have a complaint or concern regarding
your rights for quality interpreting services please contact us. You
deserve the right to be heard!

Sordos would like to thank the Deaf Community for your continued
support and requests for our reputable interpreters. As interpreting
services continues to grow we are able to fund various programs such
as our Job Search Groups and Advocacy Services. Expect more services
to come in the near future. Sordos Interpreting Services benefits our
local Deaf Community of Austin! For Interpreting Requests please email
