Position Available at Lamar University

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Lamar University in Beaumont, TX is requesting your assistance in

disseminating information to Deaf persons that may be interested in

working at the collegiate level. We have a Deaf-friendly environment

within our Department and our administration supports the hiring of

Deaf individuals, but we struggle to get applications from Deaf

individuals, especially those of diverse backgrounds. We are hoping

you can assist us in diversifying our applicant pool. LU has a strong

committment to the training of Deaf individuals, especially those
from

diverse groups, as we desire to empower the Community to become

increasingly self-sufficient. To honor this committment, it is

IMPERATIVE that we continue to bring Deaf individuals into our

faculty. We are hoping you can begin assisting us in helping to

disseminate the attached job announcement to your organization
members.

If your organization has a publication, listserv, or ezine,

we are interested in how to advertise. Any other suggestions you have

on how we can improve our efforts is greatly appreciated. In
addition,

we are interested in strengthening our ties with your organizations,
so

suggestions in that regards are also welcome (coming to campus,

advertising your conferences, etc).

Currently, LU has a tenure-tracked position available for an

Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Deaf Studies and Deaf
Education.

Attached (see below) you will find the announcement/description. If
you know of

anyone that may be interested in applying, please forward them this

are Deaf themselves. We are a national leader in the training of Deaf

teachers, especially those of diverse backgrounds. We educate from a

sociolinguistic paradigm that is culturally and linguistically

supportive of the American Deaf community. All graduate and doctoral

classes use ASL as the language of classroom instruction and Deaf

Education protocols integrate ASL/English Bilingual Education. We
have

a balanced committment to teaching, research, and

service. Additionally, Texas passed HB 868 which established the
Center
