Fort Worth Rocks – Please come and join our City Council Meeting

For a copy of the agenda and more information please refer to http://www.fortworthgov.org

Hello,

Some of you may know me. My name is Tracey Michol.

On Tuesday, January 5th, I was sworn in as a Commissioner to serve on the Mayor’s Commission on Human Relations for the City of Fort Worth. It was a special occasion, because it represents a lot of hard work on the part of many people, including members of the deaf and hard of hearing community in attendance. It is an honor to serve the people of Fort Worth and to be part of the positive changes taking place for all of us. I want to thank all of you for your support and the encouraging emails I have received.

Also on Tuesday, January 5th, the Commission adopted recommendations to be presented to the Fort Worth City Manager and City Council on matters pertaining to the deaf and hard of hearing community. The list covers a range of issues from accessibility to City owned and operated facilities to updating law enforcement to the deaf community learning about the Special Needs Assistance Program (SNAP) to a review of the City of Fort Worth’s disability programs and employment policies and procedures to maximize opportunities for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

A Citywide forum is also recommended to further discuss deaf and hard of hearing issues and solutions. We want good working solutions, and to have that, we need your participation. A date for this forum is not set yet, but I encourage you to attend our Commission meetings leading up to this important event, and to participate in the forum to insure that the end-result is one that works for all of us.

The steps we are planning to take in Fort Worth are important to improving quality of life in our City. The recommendations adopted by the Human Relations Commission will be presented to the Fort Worth City Council on Tuesday, January 13 at 7:00 PM.

You will not want to miss this meeting.

Some of you may think that showing up will not change things. I am here to tell you that you are wrong. I would not be here talking to you now, if you had not shown up and made your support known. I am here to recruit you to take the next step, to join us in support of the Commission’s recommendations at the Fort Worth City Council meeting on January 13 at City Hall. Bring your family and friends, learn about the recommendations, and be a part of making the biggest change in history. Fort Worth can become a model for others to follow.

The Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 13, at 7:00 PM, at Fort Worth City Hall located at 1000 Throckmorton Street in Fort Worth, Texas, on the 3rd Floor, in the City Council Chambers.

Sign language interpreters will be provided for this meeting. Look for further announcements and contact information on deafnetwork.com.

Remember, the change we seek begins with us. Many thanks for your support.

I look forward to meeting you.

Thank you.

Tracey Michol
