BEI Advisory Board Vacancy

The Department of Assistive and Rehabilitation Services (DARS),
Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS) is seeking
qualified applicants to fill an unexpired term for the Board for
Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) Advisory Board. After fulfilling the
remainder of the term to expire the applicant may be eligible to serve
a full three-year term.

A qualified applicant must:

* Be a Texas resident;

* Hold a valid BEI Level III, IV, V, Advanced or Master certification
and preferably with a minimum of 10 years of interpreting experience;

* Possess a Bachelors degree (preferred);

* Demonstrate knowledge of linguistics, sign language theory and
interpreting.

Appointed members are expected to advise DARS-DHHS concerning the BEI
certification program, attend regularly scheduled Board meetings,
attend BEI rater training sessions, participate in and provide
prescribed training to BEI raters, participate in panel discussions
during conferences, and assist with test development initiatives.
Meetings are held on an as needed basis or possibly every two months.
The DHHS reimburses travel expenses for trainings and board meetings.
