Dial 211 Service – You can call thru Deaf Link

Greetings my fellow Texans…

I have been asked by numerous DARS employees and specialists
regarding the complaint of their local Deaf clients who have been
unable to contact 211 of Texas through their video phones for ride
assistance during threatening weather events (they aren’t able to
“dial 211”)…

What surprises me is that this information has been posted on the
Texas DPS website now for nearly 2 years and yet many “deaf resource
specialists” are not familiar with it, so that said, would you please
post this link for every Texan that would like to be informed and
prepared…they can visit the state’s website that has access to their
information in ASL, Voice and Text…that link is:

**For 211 information, scroll down and click on either icon (Deaf
Link logo for ASL; Paper for Text format) for the 10-digit number to
use when calling 211 through your video phones.

Also, AHAS-IN is a FREE program that anyone can sign up for and start
getting alerts and information in ASL, Text, Voice and Braille…equal
access to the same information that the hearing world has.

You can sign up for that by visiting Deaf Link’s website and
submitting your information into the State’s database. To sign up go
to this link:

http://www.deaflink.com/ahas/ahas.html (scroll to bottom of page and
fill out info boxes then submit)

If you have ANY questions, please feel free to contact me by email:
[email protected] or VP 210-590-7446.

Thank you and have a safe and blessed day!

Mike Houston
