HB 978 Updated

Texas House Bill 978 – Texans with Disabilities Act

Update!

Texas House Bill (HB) 978, the Texans with Disabilities Act is now
being read on the House floor – Today! This is good news. It means
that HB 978 is moving through the legislative process. However,
anything can happen. To insure that all goes well, please email Texas
Legislators and ask them to vote “yes!” in support of HB 978. Ask
them to support Texans with disabilities.

HB 978 will protect disabled Texans by conforming Texas law to mirror
the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 2008 Amendments signed into
law by President Bush, which also received bipartisan support. A major
concern for disabled Texans now is time. The Texas Legislator meets
every other year, which means, if HB 978 is not passed before this
legislative session ends June 1, 2009, the issues faced by disabled
Texans may not be addressed by Texas Legislators as a body until 2011.

under HB 978. Also see a sample letter to use in your email if needed
and additional information on the Home page postings and HB 978 –
Texans with Disabilities Act Page.

Pass this message to friends and family and ask everyone to contact
the Texas Legislators listed. Share your personal experiences if you
like. We all may know someone with a disability, a friend, neighbor,
family member, a veteran, or a child. What kind of Texas do we want
for our children as they grow to become productive adults? Help us
make it a positive one, opening minds and doors for them to make
valued contributions to our State and to our Country.

Thank you,

Tracey and Friends
