DARS Sunset Self-Evaluation Public Meeting

DARS to conduct Public Meeting on Sunset Self-Evaluation Report

A public meeting will be conducted to gain Stakeholder input
regarding the DARS Sunset Self-Evaluation Report (SER) on:

Thursday, July 9, 2009

4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center

4800 N. Lamar Austin, Texas

Sunset is a periodic assessment of a State agency that asks the basic
question: Should a state agency be continued? The Texas Sunset
Advisory Commission conducts an evaluation and makes recommendations
to the legislature to continue, change or abolish an agency’s
mission or operations.

The DARS Sunset review will begin this summer and continue through
the 82nd legislative session. Upon completion of the agency assessment
the Sunset Advisory Commission will hold a public meeting then make
recommendations to the 82nd legislature for review. If the legislature
decides to continue the agency, a bill will be filed that extends the
agency’s operations for up to 12 years and makes any legislative
modifications.

Part of the review process is an agency Self-Evaluation Report, which
identifies strengths, weaknesses, issues and concerns for
consideration during the Sunset review. The DARS SER is currently
under development and upon completion will be posted on the agency
website for review.

Public comment on an agency’s performance and suggestions for
improvement are critical throughout the Sunset review process.

Your contribution is valued and appreciated; if you are unable to
attend the public meeting written comments may be forwarded to
[email protected]

Persons requiring special accommodations should call 512-377-0596 at
least 72 hours prior to the public hearing.

Thank you for your participation in DARS’ commitment to serving
Texans with disabilities. We look forward to your input.
