I wanted to write and introduce myself and the project I have become involved
in. My employment brings me into the community and I have been very blessed by
the people I have met there. I have looked for ways to give back to the
community and I was recently introduced to Sertoma. I have agreed to help the
Sertoma organization to establish a club in the Houston area. As you are
probably aware, Sertoma is a service organization, similar to Kiwanis, Rotary or
Lions, that specifically supports the Hearing and Speech impaired communities.

I am writing you in an attempt to strengthen the launch of this organization in
Houston. Sertoma is in other communities around Texas but, for whatever reason,
is not found in the Houston area. I want to correct this situation. I would
appreciate any suggestions you may have for reaching into the community to
strengthen the club so it can optimally support the hearing and speech
impaired.
Also, if you are aware of individuals in the Houston area who would be
interested in participating in Sertoma, I would love the opportunity to speak
with them. I am awaiting some formation paperwork from the Sertoma national
headquarters in Kansas City, but as soon as that is in hand, I would like to
start working with a core group to get the club formed and functioning in its
intended purpose.
