My name is Franklin Torres, and I am a doctoral student at Capella University,
as well as a faculty member in the Department of Applied Literacy at
Gallaudet University. For my dissertation, I am conducting a study on the literacy
experiences of first-generation Deaf Latino college students for the purpose
of hopefully identifying the experiences that support and reinforce the
development of literacy skills in Deaf Latino college students. The title of my
dissertation is, “An Examination of the Literacy Experiences of First Generation Deaf
Latino College Students.”

I am looking for participants who attended a college or university and/or
graduated, between the years 2001-2008, and have parents who did not,
themselves, attend college. The study would involve no more than three hours
of your time, for which you would be compensated $20.00 per hour. I would be
happy to work around your schedule. This study will involve a series of
interviews, which can be conducted in person or via videophone.

I would very much appreciate it if you would be willing to participate in my
study. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. I would
welcome the opportunity to meet you in person or discuss this further via videophone
@ 202 250-2323, and provide you with more details related to this study.

Thank you for considering being involved in this project. I look forward to
working with you.

Sincerely,

Franklin C. Torres
