ADARA 2011 Conference April 13-16 in San Diego

Riding the Wave of Change, ADARA’s 2011 conference, will be held on April
13-16 at the San Diego Marriott Mission Valley Hotel. Pre-conference
sessions will be on Wednesday, April 13 with the opening keynote session on
Thursday morning. The conference will conclude on Saturday at 12:00 noon.
Conference registration forms may be found at http://www.adara.org If
paying by check, you must mail registration. Online registration is
currently available through paypal.. Earlybird registration ends on
February 28 so save money by registering now.

Hotel rooms are available for $135.00 and room reservation information is
available on the ADARA website. Conference registration includes the Friday
night awards banquet and opening reception on Wednesday evening. The board
is planning focus groups as a part of this reception to receive membership
input for future ADARA goals and activitites. Poster sessions will also be
available during this time.

On Wednesday, April 13, there are two pre-conference concurrent sessions
from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.

* Play Therapy with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children presented by Alexis
Greeves.
* Become a Stronger Advocate for Your Communication Access presented by
Pauline Annarino and Lillian Garcia Peterkin.

Dr. Alan Hurwitz, President of Gallaudet University will be the opening
keynote speaker. Dr. Hurwitz will share his vision related to Gallaudet
University pertaining to future jobs for Gallaudet graduates and how
Gallaudet can collaborate with ADARA members to provide effective services
for deaf and hard of hearing persons.

On Thursday afternoon, PEPNet will be sponsoring a panel discussion on
“Filling the Service Gaps” Presenters have not yet been selected.

Two plenary sessions will conclude the conference on Saturday:

* Irene Leigh from Gallaudet University and Rose Marie Toscano from National
Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) will discuss the new National Task
Force on Health Care Careers for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Persons. They
will be sharing information on the purpose and goals of the task force.

* Mark Seeger of CSD will be sharing information on Video Remote
Interpreting (VRI) and how ADARA members may be able to make better use of
this service to save time and expense.
