HOUSTON – A national media contest gave people a chance to be creative in finding ways to accurately portray people with disabilities.

Among the winners in 2011 were Time Magazine, Texas Monthly Magazine and a 16-year-old student from the Barbara Jordan High School for Careers in northeast Houston.

“I feel proud, myself. Nothing can stop me,” says Gabriela Hanrahan, a hearing impaired student from Jordan High School. “We’re just like everyone else.”
